Fired from the ABRL
06.29.09
So I have been told.
Yep, I am no longer the Colorado rescue coordinator for the ABRL. The director who is about 2000 miles away from me, thought she knew what was best for Gabbie and Jammer. Even though she never even met the dogs.
Talk about the height of arrogance. I don’t react well to being betrayed and my reaction was “unprofessional” or so the director thought. I am damn well going to be “unprofessional” when someone does NOT have the best interests of dogs at heart.
And by the way. I have never claimed to be a professional dog rescuer, a position that is quite rare. Most people who rescue dogs are just plain folk who care about the welfare of dogs and love them dearly.
No wonder the ABRL has so few volunteers.
Gabbie, Jammer, and Molly will be available via private adoption.

Wow Len. Well, I can confess that you were wonderful and very supportive in rehoming Maisy. My family was under stress and at a crossroads and you were there for us.
Thank you Len for everything you have done for us, Maisy, and the other homeless Bouviers out there.

Len,
You’re not the first one, I was fired from the same South Carolina position. I was coerced into resigning in 2006. The issue was Scorpio whom I “reposessed” for ABRL because his idiot adopter let him kill a toy poodle on lead with a couple of spacey kids. I was eventully told by ABRL to let an “expert” take him. Result: he was shot by the “expert’ who accused him of aggression. We would have been willing to pay the fee to keep and adopt him. There actually nothing wrong with him. I just heard a bunch of whining about liablity of ABRL if we’d simply re-entered him into the ABRL program so I got pissed and quit.
I’m sick and tired of all this emphasis on finances in dog outfits. The same month as the ABRL mess I was booted out as AKC Delegate of my all breed club I suspect because another guy would travel more more cheaply. This combo sent me completely out of the damn dog game. Now three years later I’ve discovered that the self-appointed bean counters of my all-breed club quit the presidency and a board position AND I was asked to return to the board for the remainder of this year. I’ll honor the request but I’m so deflated from my knockouts the I’ll probably not serve again as an officer in either organization.
We’ll continue to enjoy or aging dog population and help another needy pup or two but that’s it.
I don’t have to worry about petty politics and bean counting with my radio club or local fire department board plus I still have old records and vintage audio gear to keep me entertained. ( I can really snicker about our Governor and offer him some authentic original tango records I personally bought in Buenos Aires in the early 1950s. Yuk, Yuk)

Sorry to hear how you were treated by ABRL, but I’m glad you are continuing on your own. By the way, Maisy is doing great – still needs some training but overall she’s a sweet girl. She is dominant over her little Puli buddy, Marley, but they are very close friends. Now if I could just get her to stop pulling the towels off the hooks in the bathroom….
